The Sofitel Sukhumvit is another 5-star luxury hotel, this time located
between sois 13 and 15 in the centre of Bangkok. This location is
absolutely fantastic for shopping, restaurants and nightlife, and
you have great transportation links to other parts of the city on
your doorstep. The Sofitel Sukhumvit oozes luxury from the moment
you arrive, the spectacular high rise building will be visible as
soon as you get close to the hotel. A taxi from the airport should
cost you around 450 Baht plus toll fees.
On checking in you will be amazed with the atrium. It is a super-luxury
arrangement with modern artwork and flower arrangements, and complimentary
cold drinks are given to guests. The check-in process is quick and
easy, as the staff speak many foreign languages fluently, and are
very polite and helpful.
As you’d expect at a hotel of this calibre, the rooms are also
fantastic, they are spacious and luxurious and many have amazing views
out over the city. The beds are incredibly comfortable, the rooms
are very clean and well laid out, with stylish modern furniture and
artwork. The bathrooms have both a bath and a shower, and are well-stocked
with fresh towels and complimentary toiletries.
The restaurant serves a great buffet-style breakfast which has almost
everything you could imagine anyone would want to eat, but you can
still order items from the menu too if you want something cooked a
certain way. There is also a modern, well-equipped gym which has both
resistance training equipment and a range of cardio machines, with
complimentary bottles of mineral water too.
The hotel is very close to the renowned Terminal 21 shopping mall,
which is a huge themed mall with a huge range of fantastic shops and
restaurants. In Terminal 21 you can find almost any food, from fish
and chips, pizzas, or burgers, to Japanese curries and Malaysian noodles.
And it is certainly not expensive, either. The hotel is also a 2 minute
walk from the South East Pharmacy, where you can buy almost any medication
at a fraction of the price that they cost in the West.
Alternatively, if nightlife is your thing, you will be very happy
staying here. Close to the hotel is Margarita Storm, which serves
amazing authentic Mexican food and draught beer, and shows sport on
large screen TVs. The raucous adult entertainment hotspot of Soi Cowboy
is also a short walk from this hotel which has dozens of go-go bars
and entertainment for male travellers.
The Sofitel Sukhumvit is also a “guest-friendly” hotel,
which means that you can take your new friend back to your room without
being charged extra, although ensure that they register with reception
first. And always keep your valuables in the room safe.
All in all, this hotel offers a fantastic luxurious experience in
an unbeatable location, and with rooms starting at around the 4500
Baht ($135) mark, it also offers sensational value. You can’t
really go wrong here.
